Fenton started making hobnail glass in the late 1930s (around 1939) for other companies, but officially launched it in their own catalog in 1940, with the popular opaque White Milk Glass Hobnail introduced in 1950, becoming their flagship line and remaining a core product well into the 1980s, though it was made in many translucent colors before that.
- 1940: Fenton began selling Hobnail items in colors like French Opalescent, Cranberry Opalescent, and Green Opalescent in their own catalogs.
- 1950: The iconic White Milk Glass Hobnail line was introduced and became a massive success, becoming their "bread and butter".
- 1950s-1980s: Hobnail remained a top-selling pattern, produced in various colors and forms, including bud vases and baskets
So, while the pattern started earlier, the famous Fenton Hobnail vases, especially the milk glass ones, became prominent from the early 1940s through the mid-1980s
